The Library aims to support teaching and research activities of the Department of Engineering by:
• Collaborating and building partnerships with students and academics;
• Providing a workable range of the most relevant and best literature from world sources;
• Using national and international library lending and copying services to provide literature which cannot be obtained from local sources
• Delivering sessions on a variety of topics, from literature searching and critical appraisal through to managing research data and Open Access.

Niamh manages the Engineering Library and Information Service. This involves leading the library team, developing new services and evaluating existing ones, developing the print and electronic collections, ensuring that students and researchers are provided with support in using these resources, and whatever else lands on her desk.
Current projects include raising awareness of Open Access (especially in relation to the post-2014 REF), copyright matters, implementation of Moodle within the Department and research into library services required by the Department of Engineering.
Niamh is particularly interested in user education (information literacy) and staff development and has published and presented in these areas.

Emma assists the Department Librarian in policy formulation and day-to-day operations of the library, provides user training, looks after the library’s online presence and has a key role in supporting the use of Moodle, the Department’s Virtual Learning Environment.
